I remember the first time I saw her picture–I can’t remember if I friend requested her on Facebook or if it was the other way around–I thought, “Wow, she’s a pretty writer.” Not sure why I had that thought, but always sometimes my brain is a random thing.

But more importantly, Wendy Paine Miller can write. Her new book, The Disappearing Key, released on Amazon last October and is getting fantastic reviews. And in the spirit of my last post, I asked Wendy a few questions about her glamorous writer life. She was gracious enough to take time away from napping on the sofa while wearing pj’s like most writers do (especially me) being hard at work to answer. Like last time, my questions are in bold; her answers are not.

If you could name just one, which author would you say inspired your writing career?

~ Going with Wally Lamb on this one. He was the first author I read when, after I finished one of his books, I said to myself I want to make people feel like this.

Did you always want to be a writer, or did you dream of something else once upon a time? (Like me–model or singer, I couldn’t decide)

~ When I was a child I wanted to be a vet. The writer in me grew in time.

What is the best book you’ve read this year (for entertainment)?

~ I’m almost done with it. I’m going with The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty

What is the best book you’ve read this year (for writing craft)?

~ Just started it. Still Writing by Dani Shapiro

 What is your daily routine?

Wake up. Make lunches. Get kids off to school. Write. Clean. Some days I visit with friends. Some days I live in my pjs. It’s a glamorous life, let me tell ya.

If we could stand outside your door, what would we overhear inside your house?

Our fish tank making sad, desperate noises in need of new chemically treated water. I’m not a fan of fish.

Do you prefer physical books or an e-reader?

Let’s get physical, physical. I have a lot of songs from the 80s memorized. There’s not much you can do with this. I use it when I can.

What’s your favorite TV show?

I don’t watch much TV, but when it’s on I’m usually watching HGTV. I’ll go with Property Brothers.

What three items are on your desk at all times?

Pens. Sticky notes. And a smooth stone. (Wait–no candy wrappers? Is that just me??)

Plotter or seat-of-pantser?

A healthy blend of both.

At a restaurant, do you go with the appetizer, dessert, or both?

Both!

Dogs or cats?

DOGS!

Beach or mountains?

Lake.

Favorite place to hide the junk in your house when company comes over (please tell me you do this, too).

Small stuff in junk drawers. Big stuff on my bedroom floor & close the door. We all do it. 😉

 Fruit pies or chocolate?

Because fruit pies sounded like fruit flies when I said it in my head I’m going with chocolate. Can you ever go wrong with chocolate? (no, you never can)

Thank you Wendy! I always enjoy chatting with you! And to everyone reading, be sure and pick up her book here:
